Welcome to Bicycle Friendly Grapevine!
Vision North Texas 2050
The Bicycle Friendly Grapevine Staff attended the Vision North Texas 2050 summit and have filed the following report:
This was a fascinating summit filled with eye popping stats and fascinating panel discussions. Vision North Texas is an organization taking a look far into the future of out region, and supplying some foresight to local governments as to what to plan for in the future.
The growth within the region has been staggering, but the coming growth can is a real eye-opener. The net takeaway, we cannot continue our current urban sprawl patters, or we will love in traffic gridlock under a brown cloud of pollution with little fresh foods available in our region. Quite simply, we cannot spend our way out of the coming mess.
The region will grow from a current population of 6.5 million to 9.5 million by 2030, and 11.6 million by 2050. It is up to our planners and Government Officials to resist the urge of quick profits based on the business as usual model, and embrace the principals of New Urbanism as we grow into a future in which our children and grand children can live in a cleaner, safer and more livable community.

What is Bike Grapevine?
Bike Grapevine is a newly formed organization with a goal of making Grapevine a more "Bicycle Friendly" city. This not to say that Grapevine is not a great place to ride bicycles, in fact we have a great inventory of bicycle assets; over 22 miles of paved trail; 2 major mountain bike trails; great road cycling clubs, it's that we think Grapevine could be and should be the best bicycle town in Texas!
Our goal is to get the city recognized as an official "Bicycle Friendly" Community by the League of American Bicyclists. While there are many different projects involved in accomplishing this, we first will need the city to recognize the value of this goal. Grapevine is already known for its outdoor amenities but they are mostly viewed as recreational. We will need to work with the citizens and the city management to extend the biking amenities to accommodate commuting, getting children to school, running errands and dining-out locally.
If you are at this site, we assume already know the joy of bicycling. John F. Kennedy said "nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride." We couldn't agree more. And that simple pleasure could help us get and stay healthier, cut down on pollution, as well as save us a ton of money. Bicycling can be the "Magic Pill" for a lot of our ills.
We hope you will join us in making Grapevine a safer place to ride our bikes. Click Here to find out how to help.

Ft. Worth Mayor Moncrief ... "Car-Centric Planning a Mistake"
Mayor Moncrief has given his State of the City address, and one of the items he discussed was the city’s transportation and planning. The mayor stated in no uncertain terms that Fort Worth is facing severe transportation challenges, that they stem from too many years of car-first planning, and that Fort Worth can no longer be designed and built in a car-centric fashion.
